Sunday 30th July 2017

We started the day expecting significant rain showers with possible some thunder clouds later on, but it proved to be less dramatic than forecast, although we did receive 5mm of the wet stuff in several heavy showers.   Unfortunately, the DG500 suffered a puncture that was not repairable today, but despite this the three other […] Read More...

A much earlier start to flying today than yesterday: 9:57.  There were twenty-three winch launches, five aerotows, and one training motor-glider flight. Paul Whitehead showed the tantalising "wave" prediction at briefing, and wave clouds were visible for much of the morning, although at some distance.  They re-appeared after in mid-afternoon. Wednesday: Low cloud and intermittant rain meant this was a day for TLC on the club's assets and for catching up with admin. Thursday: More rain and low overcast kept the gliders on the ground until about 3pm. The hardy souls that had hung around for the clearance were rewarded with hill and thermal conditions […] Read More...

Addendum to Tuesday’s Entry

A fleet of over 30 vintage and classic cars from a bygone era dropped in at the club to admire the view, watch the gliding and sample Liz's famous lunchtime fare. See pic below. Not surprisingly the car owners had a lot in common with most YGC members present being of the same vintage themselves. […] Read More...

An anticyclonic day with a light southeasterly backing to become a lively easterly. Another day to slap on the sun block! The early low stratus had burnt off by 10-30 when operations got under way on r/w 20. Training and air experience flights predominated throughout the day as x/c opportunities appeared limited given the conditions. […] Read More...
