Wednesday 31st. A sunny morning with a light SSW'ly blowing led to a flying day, with 17 ATs off runway 24, runway 20 also being used for landing, the day's flying also including 3 flights in the Falke with O/Rs to the Barnard Castle area, Pocklington and Easingwold. The wind slowly increased to light to moderate over the day and veered into the W, this providing some weak wave lift for those flying in the afternoon. Paul Whitehead was the chief beneficiary as he flew Astir DPO for just over an hour, initially finding lift just to the NW of site and remaining above 4,000' asl for most of his flight, with a peak altitude of 5,500' asl reached some 7.5 km SW of site. The only other pilot to extend his flight beyond 30 minutes was Austin Hartland whose 36 minutes in DPO included a climb of 200' from release followed by a slow descent, all in the area in front of the home bowl. The longest 2 seater flight was by Derek Smith/Steve Scothern in K21 KLW, their 28 minutes including a slow climb of 700' post release, again in the area in front of the home bowl.
Thursday 1st. A low pressure centred over Scandinavia brought a cold and gusty NW'ly flow to the UK so there was no flying.
Friday 2nd. There was little change in the synoptic situation, the cold and gusty NW'ly flow again ensuring a non flying day at Sutton
