Wednesday 18th. A light to light to moderate WSW'ly blew on of a day of sunny intervals and isolated, heavy showers one of which caused a 2 hour interruption to the day's flying which totalled 16 ATs and 1 Falke flight off runway 24. Moderate thermal activity meant 8 flights lasted 30 minutes or more, with 3 of these over an hour, as 3 First Flight pupils were flown and James Shaw/Edgar Cifuentes took the Falke on an O/R to Potto. The day's > an hour pilots included Dave McKinney/John Carter who had 1:46 in the DG 500, sampling the local thermals up to maximum altitude of 5,100' asl at average peak climb rate of 3 kts, the 1:46 also including a spell of hill soaring the home bowl at 700' QFE towards the end of their flight. Martin Whitehead/Pue Sze Ling in K21 JVZ had 1:10 in a thermal based flight that also included a period of hill soaring on the home bow lto recover from a 200' QFE low point , while Nigel Dickenson in his Club Libelle, the only private owner to fly, had 2 flights, the 2nd of which, and the last of the day, lasted 1:07 as he slowly descended from his release height in a series of weakening thermals.
