Wednesday 17th. A light NNW'ly blew under sunny skies, the maximum temperature just rising above 0C. All the day's 10 ATs off runway 02 were in K21 JVZ, with Polly Whitehead and Derek Smith flying solo, Derek on 3 occasions, with rest of the launches flown dual. Polly, courtesy of some reduced sink over Cold Kirby, extended her flight time to 32 minutes, the first of the year over 30 minutes and Dave McKinney/John Carter found reduced sink in the same area with a flight time of 28 minutes. Otherwise a number of pilots took low tows to brush up their circuit flying and the Flake had 3 sorties, two to Rufforth with touch and goes practiced there on one occasion, with the other flight doing an O/R to Pickering.
Thursday 18th. Crystal clear skies prevailed as the moderate NNW'ly slowly fell light and backed into the WNW, the maximum temperature just reaching 0C. 10 ATs were flown off runway 02, 7 dual in K21 JVZ and 3 in Astir DPO, with the Falke having two sorties, one to Scudale with Martin and Albert Newbery flying and one to the Tontine and Topcliffe with Bruce Grain/Neil Amos aboard. Martin, Albert and Neil dominated the day's flying, with Neil having 5 flights in JVZ with Clive Swain as P1 with Martin & Albert also having a flight in JVZ before Martin took the last flight of the day in Astir DPO. Some lift in the area just to the north of Gormire and along the main bowl during the afternoon enabled a number of pilots to extend their flights into the high 20 minutes, with John Forrester in DPO and George Rowden in JVZ with the only First Flight pupil of the day, each extending the year's longest flight so far to 34 minutes.
