Tuesday 2nd. Fronts associated with a shallow low brought patchy rain from 02-09 hrs, the clearing skies allowing flying to get underway around 1300 hrs. The afternoon brought heavy showers, all of which missed the club, allowing 13 ATs and 4 Falke flights off runway 24 to be completed, with all 4 Falke flights by James Shaw/Dave McKinney. A mixture of weak wave and thermal resulted in 4 flights of 30 minutes or more, but none over 60 minutes, the 51 minutes by Polly/Paul Whitehead in K21 JVZ being the longest of the day and the result of slowly descending from 3,300' to 2,400' asl while repeatedly traversing the area between site and Thirsk with very little circling. A similar flight pattern was flown by James Shaw/guest in K21 KLW with a 34 minute flight time, while Bruce Grain/guest in KLW combined an initial spell of this type of soaring with a later thermal to land after 30 minutes. Andreas Rieder/David Rules' 34 minutes was the result of thermal soaring to the N of site, while Andreas' 31 minute flight in KLW with Steven Carrol saw them contact a thermal off an 1,100' tow and climb to 3,000' asl.
