Thursday 25th. The heat wave showed signs of, easing with the maximum temperature at Topcliffe reaching 28.5C compared with the 31.0/31.5C of the past couple of days. It was, however, still another hot and sunny day with a moderate SSE'ly veering into the ESE and becoming moderate to fresh, with little in the way of lift to exploit. The 14 ATs off runway 20 failed to register a single flight of 30 minutes or more, with Andreas Rieder/ Eamon Dowler in K21 KLW and Nigel Burke and one of the day's 5 First Flight pupils in K21 JVZ having 24 minutes each, albeit via different flight profiles. Nigel/pupil took a 3,000' QFE tow to achieve their 24 minutes, while Andreas/Eamonn launched to 1,600' QFE and descended to 1,100' QFE before contacting a weak thermal which took them to 1,500' QFE which they were able to sustain for around 5 minutes before the descent to their landing. The 49 minute Falke flight took in Malton and Castle Howard, with Bob Beck and Chris Milnes including field landing practice near Sutton on Forest in their flight profile.
