Thursday 11th. 24 ATs and 2 Falke flights launched off runway 20 into a light to moderate SE'ly on a generally cloudy day at Sutton. All the ATs were by one of the 3 club 2 seaters flown on the day and while most flights were of the up, round and down variety, a few managed to contact some weak wave generally aligned with the southern ridge. While nobody managed an hour or more, 3 flights equalled or exceeded the 30 minute mark, with James Shaw/Khara Triantafyllidou having 30 minutes in K21 JVZ off the first flight of the day. James/Roger Taylor in K21 KLW improved the flight time to 44 minutes, taking a high tow and then climbing from 3,000' QFE to 3,600' QFE just to the SW of site and staying above 3,000' QFE for a while before slowly descending. The longest flight of the day belonged to Paul and Polly Whitehead, who in JVZ, had 53 minutes, initially hill soaring the southern ridge between site and Ampleforth at 900'-1,300' QFE before climbing to 1,900' QFE above the White Horse ridge.
This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
