Sunday 27th. A moderate SSE'ly brought extensive low cloud and occasional drizzle, which only cleared late in the day as the wind veered into the SSW, so there was no flying.
Monday 28th. A ridge of high pressure brought a good soaring day, as a light to moderate SSE'ly slowly veered into the S. 22 ATs and a self launch off runway 20 led to 18 flights of over 30 minutes, with 14 of these over an hour, as 14 private owners flew along with 2 First Flight pupils. Most pilots stayed local, with cloud base up to around 5,000' asl and average peak climbs around 3 kts, flight times ranging from visitor Martin Langford's 3:25 in his LS6 to JIm Mclean's 1:05 in his ASW24, although visitors Peter Brown in his Ventus 2ct and Francis Russell in his LS6-18 both flew an O/R to Boroughbridge during their flights. Rob Bailey in his ASG29, Graham Morris in his Ventus 2cxt, Chris Handzlik in his DG300 and David and Simone Latimer in their Arcus M all flew XC's. Rob flew 195 km with TPs at Hawes, Sutton Start S and Northallerton, starting and finishing the flight at Sutton Start S and provided the following photo,
while Graham flew 190 OLC km with TPs at Northallerton, Pocklington, Wetherby, Ripon, Hemsley and Thirsk. Chris flew the local 100 km Rufforth, Pocklington triangle, with David and Simone visiting the Aysgarth and Ripon areas to cover 135 OLC km.
Ian McFarland/Andrew Bedford had the longest flight in a club glider, their 1:14 being undertaken locally in K21 KLW.
Tuesday 29th. A low overcast with occasional drizzle, brought in on a moderate E/ESE'ly, meant there was no flying.
