Saturday 15th.  A medium level overcast persisted for much of the day, only partially breaking up in the afternoon, as a light to moderate W'ly blew, bringing in a much cooler airmass.  There was some lift to be had, with 8 of the day's 28 ATs off runway 24 leading to >30 minute flights, of which 2 were over an hour, with all these flights staying local as cloud base reached around 4,000' asl with average peak climb rates around 2.5 kts.    6 First Flight pupils were introduced to gliding and the Falke had 3 flights, the first being a landing at  Rufforth and a return to Sutton and the third including a simulated launch failure followed by a number of simulated field landings during a flight around Easingwold and Slingsby.  Martin Newbery in his Ventus ct and James Prosser in his Ventus 2ct were the >an hour pilots, Martin having 1:21 and James 1:48.  Clive Swain/Edgar Cifuentes  in K21 JVZ had the longest flight in a club 2 seater with 54 minutes, while Sam Dawson flew Astir DPO for 46 minutes.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
