Monday 23rd to Friday 27th December 2024

Monday 23rd.  A light to moderate WNW'ly slowly backed into the SW with the day's 11 ATs shared between K21 KLW and Astir DSU, Martin Newbery's 32 minutes in DSU being the longest of the day and the only flight over 30 minutes.  The next best was John Forrester's 20 minutes in the same glider, while the longest 2 seater flight was the 17 minutes flown by Ian McFarlane and Amelia Forrester.

Tuesday 24th.  The fresh WSW'ly was too strong to allow any flying.

Wednesday 25th.  Christmas day is the only day in the year when there is never any flying.

Thursday 26th.  Fog filled valleys, but with the fog sufficiently clear of the sides of the North Yorkshire moors meant there was  flying in the clear blue skies.  9 ATs were flown with K21 KLW, Astir DSU and the Discus utilised, father and daughter John and Amelia Forrester jointly achieving the longest flights of the day, 18 minutes, John flying the Discus and Amelia the Astir.  Fred Brown/Sanjay Nath's 14 minutes in KLW was the longest 2 seater flight.

Friday 27th.  The valleys surrounding the site were again fog filled but this time there were no clear fields close to site so there was no flying.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
