Friday 2nd.  A bright start to the day didn't last long as skies clouded over bringing the occasional shower, as a moderate/moderate to fresh S'ly blew.  10 ATs were flown off runway 20, including 2 for First Flight pupils, while Toby Wilson in his Std Cirrus was the only private owner to fly contributing the only flight to exceed an  hour, his 1:45 being flown in hill lift on two specific areas.  These were the corner of the home bowl above Lake Gormire and above the White Horse on the southern ridge, with 900'-1,300' QFE being maintained plus a peak height of 1,700' QFE.   Two other flights exceeded 30 minutes, the first by James Shaw/Matthew Jones in the DG500, their 43 minutes including a period at 1,300'-1,500' QFE as they flew an E/W beat between Wass and to the W of Kilburn.  Nigel Burke and his First Flight pupil in K21 JVZ had 32 minutes, initially gaining 100' off tow near Ampleforth, and then slowly descending in reduced sink as they flew beats between Wass and the White Horse.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
