Friday 27th. Low cloud and rain in the morning cleared sufficiently for flying to commence around 1400 hrs, with Chris Teagle taking the 1st of the day's 6 ATs off runway 24 into a moderate W'ly, a flying list that comprised two First Flight pupils, 2 private owners, and members in a club 2 seater and a club single seater. Chris found good thermal conditions, with a 5,000' asl cloudbase and 4 kt thermals, utilising the conditions to fly an O/R to Boroughbridge, then an O/R to Northallerton followed by a spell hill soaring the main W'ly ridge and beyond to Black Hambleton, an overall OLC distance of 103 km. Chris's 2:07 was one of 4 > an hour flights of the day, with Yurii Kozheurov's 3:05 in his PIK20D being the longest, his local soaring comprising a initial period of thermal soaring followed by a period maintaining 3,000'- 3,400' asl in front of the home bowl and a final period of hill soaring the home bowl. Derek Smith's 1:51 in the Discus covered 95 OLC km, with a visit to the SE of Ripon followed by a transfer to the NE of Northallerton and a final spell of hill soaring the main W'ly ridge, while James Shaw/Ryan Parker's 1:05 in the DG1000 was in local thermals.
