Wednesday 4th. Cloudy skies cleared to give a sunny afternoon, the wind being a moderate SE'ly, with Clive Swain taking the 1st flight of the day in the Falke off runway 20 around 1140 hrs. 19 flights followed, with 16 being via AT and 3 by the self launching Arcus, pilots Derek Smith/Dave Latimer having 1:04 and then 27 minutes, before Derek/Simona Latimer had 40 minutes, all the flights being due to engine use and climbs to 5/6,000' asl. Two other private owners launched, Andrew Wilmot in his ASW 19 and Bob Calvert in his Discus 2ct. While Andrew flew an extended circuit, Bob, after an initial engine burn, set off to the NE and found some weak wave between Carlton Bank and Danby which resulted in a climb to 5,600' asl. Another slow climb some 7 km to the NE of Danby peaked at 9,600' asl before Bob flew W to another climb to 8,900' asl just to the NE of Carlton Bank in the lee of the N Yorks Moors. A beat to the Tontine and back to Carlton Bank that resulted in very little loss of altitude was followed by a return to site after a flight of 4:29. All but one of the day's other flights were extended circuits from 2-3,000' tows or circuit training from 1,100' tows. However, Dave McKinney/Ryan Parker in the DG1000 posted 27 minutes from their 5,000' tow, their flight including some stall/spin training.
