Wednesday 17th. Members arriving at site prior to the normal 0930 hr briefing were welcomed by a light to moderate WSW'ly wind but this quickly increased to moderate/moderate to fresh while staying in the same direction. As a result it was a winching day with 8 launches off runway 24, the last flight landing around 1600 hrs as the sun dipped below some lowish cloud to the west. Only K21 KLW and the DG500 were flown, with Ian Johnston flying the former solo for 42 minutes and finding some weak wave that got him to around 3,000' asl. Bill Payton and George Rowden, flying the DG500 on a shared basis, also climbed to around 3.000' asl in weak wave over the main bowl, having returned from a hill soaring trip to the Tontine, before indulging in some high speed/low level forays along the ridge line and landing after a flight time of 1:38. Andy Parish and Peter Robinson, taking off on the last flight of the day in the DG500, had 58 minutes,while on the penultimate flight Steve Thompson and Laurie Clarke had 1:26, this adding to the 1:29 Laurie had with Steve off the first flight of the day, both flights being in KLW. The day's only First Flight pupil Mrs T King thoroughly enjoyed her 29 minutes with Graham Evison in the DG500 on a day in which all launches led to flights in excess of 30 minutes, with three in excess of an hour. While the flying was going on, the club's 2 two seater trailers, which had been parked on the north side of the hangars, were more securely located in the club trailer park in advance of a warning of strong winds overnight into Thursday. The DG1001 Club demonstrator trailer was also moved to a sheltered place in front of the hangars and attached to Andy Parish's Land Rover.
