Tuesday 7th. Another day of moderate to moderate to fresh W/WSW'ly winds with the cloudy skies clearing from mid afternoon, meant another day of hill, thermal and for some wave soaring. Thermals were generally weak and the wave gentle, but 10 flights of over 30 minutes of which 5 were over an hour came from the 24 ATs and a self launch off runway 24, with 3 pilots climbing to over 5,000' asl. Martyn Johnson in his DG600 got to 9,856' asl while flying the area bounded by Ripon, Masham, Pateley Bridg and Harrogate N, while Steve Thompson reached 9,920' asl in his 149 km task around Ripon, Barnard Castle and Knaresborough., both pilots contacting the wave in the Topcliffe/Thirsk area. The other pilot to climb above 5,000' asl was Martin Newbery who, after an initial engine burn in his Ventus ct, eventually reached 7,000' asl locally with another climb to 6,100' asl near Leeming. The other > an hour pilots were Nigel Burke in his DG808, who thermalled locally between 1,800' to 2.800' asl with a peak of 3,500' asl, and Patrick Fowler who had 2:12 of soaring the home bowl while operating between 800' to 1,800' QFE. The longest flight in a club glider was by Andreas Rieder/Thomas Robinson who had 56 minutes in K21 KLW. After release, they who climbed back to 2,900' asl over the Forward Ridge area in weak wave before returning to soar the home bowl at 700/900' QFE.
