Tuesday 30th. A light to moderate S'ly blew for most of the day, veering to become a light W'ly around 1700 hrs, just in time for the Tuesday evening group to restart operations following the cessation of flying by the day team around 1445 hrs after a launch total of 9 ATs off runway 20. 2 Flight Pupils and 1 Private Owner flew, with all 4 soaring flights being over an hour. In spite of some good looking Cumulus, a cloud base of up to 5,500' asl and average peak climb rates of around 3.5 kts, the farthest anyone ventured from site was around 15 km. Andreas/Rieder/Spencer Bailey in the DG1000 had the longest flight of the day, during which they climbed to 5,400' asl, their time of 3:16 just beating Spencer's dad's time of 3:10, Rob also staying local in his ASG29t. It was perhaps a sticky 30 minutes of struggling to get above 2,500' asl while NW of site that persuaded Rob Bailey to stay local. The other 2 >an hour flights were both by Astir pilots, Austin Harland having 2'|04 and climbing to 4,200' asl in DSU and Neil Amos having 1:39 and climbing to 5,100' asl in DPO. The Tuesday evening group added 8 ATs to the day's total with Toby Wilson/Dexter Lombaert having 2 simulated launch failures with a resultant straight ahead landing on runway 20 and a downwind landing on runway 02.
Wednesday 1st. A rather variable WSW'ly blew, ranging from light to moderate to fresh, as skies gradually clouded over as a front approached from the W. !3 ATs were flown off runway 24, all but one in 2 seaters. the other being by Pete Goodchild in his Discus bt, his 52 minutes flown locally in thermal being the 2nd longest of the day. The longest of the day was the 1:05 flown by Paul/Polly Whitehead in K21 KLW which saw them operate between 2,800' and 3,600' asl locally, while the only other flight over 30 minutes was Chris O'Doyle/Rob Cruickshank's 45 minutes in K21 JVZ. The above 3 flights were all in a period from 1215 to 1411 hrs, but later in the day as the wind picked up and cloud cover increased, James Shaw/Chara Triantafyllidou in the DG1000 had 29 minutes via a mix of weak thermal and hill lift on the home bowl.
