Tuesday 26th.  With Storm Bert now well out of the way, a sunny day with a light to moderate SW'ly that slowly veered into the W resulted in 13 AT's off runway 24, the majority of landings being on 20, while the Falke had 2 flights.    Hill lift and some weak wave were used to give 8 flights of over 30 minutes with 2 over an hour, one by John Carter/Dave McKinney in the DG500 with 1:08 and the other by Neil Paverley in his Nimbus 2, 1:49, Neil being one of the two private owners to fly.  Both John/Dave and Neil's flights included climbs from their release heights to 5,300' asl and 4,900' asl respectively in an  are to the north of Thirsk, with Neil flying further north to just south of Northallerton where another, more moderate climb in wave ensued.  Returning to site Neil indulged in a little hill soaring before landing.  John/Dave remained in the area to the north of Thirsk maintaining 3,600'-4,000' asl for the majority of their flight.  Bob Beck/Duncan Pask, in their second flight in K21 JVZ, were able to maintain their release height of 3,200' asl for a while before using hill lift in their 48 minute flight, while hill lift was the means by which Steve Thompson in Astir FSH, Steve Ogden in his Discus, Bruce Grain/John Forrester in K21 KLW, and Konrad Kawalec in DSU extended their flights to 56, 48, 42, 58, and 48 minutes respectively, their operating heights being in the 6-900' QFE band.  Steve Thompson on the other hand, taking one of the day's earliest flights, never climbed much above 500' QFE.
