The lack of the Blog from to Monday 12th May was due to my being on holiday.
Tuesday 13th. The persistent high pressure with now with its centre to the north of the UK meant a light to moderate E'ly at site with sunny, blue skies after a cloudy start. 20 ATs were flown off runway 02 with some landings on runway 06 with Ian McFarlane/Oliver Greenhall taking the Falke for a trip around Stamford Bridge and Rufforth South that included some field landing practice. James Shaw/Mike Heaton in K21 KLW took a high tow off the first launch of the day and were rewarded with some E'ly wave that enabled them to do an O/R to Carlton Bank, never getting below 2,800' asl and having a flight time of 1:11. After John Forrester took the only First Flight pupil of the day for a trip in KLW, James and Mike had a further 1:02 flight in KLW following a high tow to the Hemsley area, this time soaring via a mixture of wave and thermal. James and Mike's flights were the only ones to exceed an hour, with only one other flight having between 30 and 60 minutes, this being by Simon Altman/Stephen Atkinson in the DG1000, their 55 minutes being thermal based and local to the site. The Tuesday evening group carried on flying until 2100 hrs when Toby Wilson/Reuben Johnson landed in KLW, all the evening flights being extended circuits.
Wednesday 14th. A low overcast delayed the start of flying until 1300 hrs, the cloud being brought in on a moderate N'ly, before being replaced by sunny, blue skies. The latter did not provide too much in the wave of lift, with only one flight, the 47 minutes by Clive Swain/Neil Amos in K21 JVZ, exceeding 30 minutes, with a number of weak thermals being the source of lift. Guy Harland with one of the day's 4 First Flight pupils came closest to joining Clive and Neil with 27 minutes in the DG500, again the result of finding a weak thermal, with all the day's other launches returning to earth after typically 15 minutes. The day's flying was completed by Chris Collingham/Oliver Greenhall's flight in the Falke when they visited Fridaythorpe and Stamford Bridge.
