Thursday 6th.  A moderate SW slowly backed into the S under generally overcast skies that did not, however,  prevent Cumulus forming underneath.  21 ATs were flown off runway 24, including 6 for private owners and 5 for First Flight pupils, with the day providing 9 flights of over 30 minutes including 5 over an hour.  Members O'Boyle and Scothern in their Discus had 1:10 and 1:00 respectively, operating mainly north of the site and climbing to 4,200' and 4,500' asl with peak climb rates in the mid 3 kts, this being typical of the  day.  Albert and Martin Newbery in their DG1000t, flew around 115 km, visiting close to Malton, Driffield and Fridaythorpe and getting to 4,700' asl.  George Rowden in his LS8-18, flew to Tontine, but on returning S found only dead air and had to resort to his engine.  Eventually reconnecting with the convection, George climbed to 5,700' asl via thermal and some weak wave, landing after just short of 4 hours.  Steve Sanderson in Astir DPO had 57 minutes visiting the East Coast Main Line N of Thirsk and climbing to 5,400' asl.  Clive Swain/Peter Newbery in K21 KLW had just over an hour on another interesting soaring day at Sutton.
