Sunday 24th to Monday 25th November 2024

Sunday 24th. Storm Bert was still exerting its influence on the UK's weather, with locally, another wet morning that left the airfield unfit for flying, although the wind had become a moderate WSW'ly and the afternoon cleared to sunny intervals.
Monday 25th. The mild and moderate WSW'ly continued to blow, bringing in a number of showers that delayed the start of flying until midday. The afternoon saw 5 winch launches off runway 24, one for the day's only First Flight pupil, one for a returning First Flight pupil and the balance for club members. Three flights exceeded an hour, with Bruce Grain/Andrew Bedford having 1:24 in K21 JVZ, Ian McFarlane with the returning First Flight pupil having 1:02 also in JVZ and Dean Crosby in Astir DSU having 1:20. The available traces (there were non for Ian and Dean's flights) indicated that hill soaring was the means of staying airborne, with the main W'ly ridge as far north as High Paradise Farm being flown and operating heights being generally in the range 1,000' to 1,500' QFE.
