Sunday 22nd to Tuesday 24th September 2024

Sunday 22nd. The light to moderate N'ly flow continued to bring in a low overcast so there was no flying.
Monday 23rd. A front from the low pressure centre to the south crossed the north of England during the early morning bringing 53 mm of rain, with some light rain persisting into the afternoon along with the low cloud in the continuing light to moderate N'ly. Consequently, there was no flying.
Tuesday 24th. A little more rain overnight was followed by a break up of the cloud layer, it's base also rising, allowing flying to commence around 1330 hrs, the Falke starting the ball rolling by making the first of a number of sorties. Glider flights were limited to 4, all off runway 24, as a light NW'ly blew, 2 of these in K21 JVZ, one in the Discus and one by Steve Thompson in his Ventus bt. Steve managed a flight of 48 minutes in weak thermal, mainly in and around the main bowl, although he did manage to fly out to the East Coast Main LIne SE of Topcliffe at one point having climbed to his maximum altitude of 4,000' asl. The flight times in the other gliders ranged from 10 - 17 minutes, the variation being due to tow height differences.
