Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th March 2026

Saturday 7th.  A day of a overcast skies and a light to moderate SSE'ly wind meant operations were off runway 20, as the club welcomed ladies from the Women go Gliding group.  Release heights were limited by the overcast, the highest being 1,800' QFE, and consequently, flight times were generally below 20 minutes even off the highest tows, although some weak thermal activity did extend flight times for some.  Visitors Tim Robinson/Christina Percy in their Duo Discus t had the longest flights, their first lasting 33 minutes and their second, 31 minutes.  In both cases the flight times were the result of some weak thermal activity as well as engine use, the former providing a climb of 600' on their 1st flight and allowing them to maintain an altitude of 2,100' QFE on their second.   Thermals over the gulley just to the east of the airfield, or just to the W of the home bowl were also used to either provide some small climbs, maintain height or reduce sink rates by Sarah Stubbs/Matthew Hill in K21 JVZ, Sarah/Elizabeth Hudson and Chris Collingham/Carol Marshall in K21 KLW and by Sarah Lee in Astir DPO.  The flying list also included 3 sorties by the Falke, with the 3rd being  a XC flight by Chris Collingham/Hayley Atkinson  that took in TPs at Easingwold and Boroughbridge and concluded flying for the day.

Sunday 8th.  The light to moderate SE'ly flow continued to bring in overcast skies, but with murky conditions at times and a lowered cloudbase, there was no flying.
