Saturday 31st.  A light to moderate S'ly wind veered into the WSW over the course of the day, the partly cloudy skies providing some thermal activity from late morning.  27 ATs and a self launch from runway 20, in addition to 3 flights in the Falke and 2 in  Eurofox ETY constituted the day's flying, with 12 flights exceeding 30 minutes of which  8 exceeded an hour and 6 First Flight pupils were flown.,  All but 2 of the >30 minute flights were flown by  private owners, with Toby Wilson providing the exceptions, first a 37 minute thermal flight  with Elliott Hall in K21 JVZ  with a climb to 2,900' asl and then  1:16 with Logan Briggs in the DG500 during which they operated between 600-1600' QFE using a combination of thermal and hill lift in the main bowl.   The 7 private owner flights to exceed an hour ranged from Ben Dawson's 1:18 in his Cirrus to Bob Calvert's 2:14 in his Discus 2ct.  The moderate strength thermals, average peak values of 1,5-2 kts. and a cloud base of up to 4,000' asl didn't encourage any one to go too far, with Fred Brown in his Ventus 2ct visiting Boroughbridge 20 km away as did Kelly Teagle in her LS8t-18, Kelly also flying N to Boltby in  her 1:37 flight.  While most soaring was via a mixture of hill and thermal lift, Martyn Johnson in his DG600 was a  hill soaring pilot during his 1:50, using the whole of main W'ly ridge, while Adam Sayer in his ASW19 and Fred found some weak wave.  Adam contacted wave over the site that took him to the best altitude of the day, 5,100' asl,  while Fred spent 15 minutes of his 1:35 flight i wave over Boroughbridge, slowly descending from 4,000-3,500' asl.
