Saturday 27th.  The wind had become a moderate SSW'ly so operations were off runway 20, 10 ATs being flown behind the Eurofox.   Aloft the wind was from the SW and generated some wave activity and limited hill soaring that led to 8 of the day's flights exceeding 30 minutes with 3 exceeding an hour.  Neil Paveley, flying the only single seater flight of the day in Astir DSU, had the longest flight, 1:55, and the 2nd best climb to 6,600' asl just to the NW of Thirsk.  Neil contacted the wave straight from the tow just to the west of Thirsk and after climbing to his maximum altitude, flew to 3 km SSE of Northallerton and then to 4 km SSE of Easingwold before returning to Sutton.  The best climb of the day was by Paul Whitehead/Tor Taverner in K21 JVZ, who, off the last flight of the day climbed to  6,900' asl over Bagby, spending most of their 1:35 in the Bagby/Thirsk area but flying to 9 km north of Sutton before returning to land.  Other pilots to contact the wave included John Carter/Martin Joyce in K21 KLW who contacted the wave over Sutton village and  climbed to 5,900' asl just to the NW of the village, steadily climbing in a 5 km long beat orientated NNW/SSE with its NNW extremity near Felixkirk.   Leaving the wave they arrived at the home bowl at 400' QFE and climbed back to 1,000' QFE before landing after 54 minutes.  Paul Whitehead/Ian Bullous in JVZ climbed to 4,700' asl in their flight of 36 minutes, while off  the first flight of the day, Dave McKinney/Steve Everitt climbed to 3,300' asl in JVZ, their flight, mainly to the south of site, lasting exactly an hour.
