Saturday 21st to Sunday 22nd March 2026

Saturday 21st. A light to moderate SSE'ly blew all day with morning mistiness giving way to a brighter afternoon. The initial murkiness delayed the start of flying until around 1100 hrs, but thereafter, 22 ATs, a self launch and 1 Falke flight departed from runway 20, but a lack of any lift meant no flights of over 30 minutes, with release heights of 3,000' QFE or above required to extend flying times above 20 minutes. 4 private owners flew with Peter Crawley in his ASH 31M recording the longest flight of the day, 27 minutes, the result of a engine off height of 3,400' QFE. All the other flights of between 21 and 25minutes were the result of tows to 3,000' QFE with 3 being for the day's First Flight pupils and the remaining 2 by Steve Ogden in his Discus and by Beau Basson in his ASW20. I was initially puzzled by the logging of two flights by Steve Thompson in his Ventus 2bt, but with both terminating over the North Sea, 194 km NE of Whitby, the first at 13,000' and the second at 23,000' asl with flight times of 2 and 3 minutes respectively I very quickly realised it was a glitch in the system probably caused by his switching on, and later in the day off, of his flight computer.
Sunday 22nd. Another misty. murky start to the day as a light ot light to moderate S'ly veered into the WNW late afternoon accompanied by somewhat brighter skies. The poor visibility resulted in flying being restricted to the Falke, with most of its 6 flights being circuit practice, although Paul Whitehead/Alex Sariban flew 2/3rds of the way to York and back after their spell of circuit bashing.
