Saturday 20th.  A weak Atlantic front slowly approaching from the west meant a day of cloudy skies and limited soaring opportunities as a light to moderate S'ly blew, cloud base being around 3,500' asl and average peak thermal strengths around 1.5 to 2 kts. 15 ATs off runway 20 were flown, including 5 for First Flight pupils, but only 4 flights equalled or exceeded30 minutes and none exceeded an hour, on a day when only a single private owner flew and there were no flights in club single seaters.  The longest flight of the day saw Phil Morgan/John Douglas have 53 minutes in the DG1000, soaring locally in the weak thermals, with visitor Roger Newton having 46 minutes in his Club Libelle, his second flight of the day.  The other soaring flights were by Phil Morgan/James Minx in the DG1000 and Fred Brown/Logan Briggs in K21 JVZ with flight times of 35 and 30 minutes respectively.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
