After the previous day almost anything would have been an anti climax and so it turned out. The decision was made fairly early in the day to abandon setting a task for the Northerns competitors. We imagine this was not unwelcome in view of the lengthy flights on Sunday. It also gave them and their crews a chance to see something of Yorkshire at ground level with Whitby a popular destination.
Sporadic flying during the day totalled 10 flights in the club 2-seaters plus a couple of flights for Northerns competitors hoping to find elusive wave. John Carter in the K21 twice took his pupil to around 4500ft in weak wave lift and was able to coax one of the visiting pilots to join him so he could demonstrate the technique of wave soaring. The visiting DG500 also contacted wave to a maximum height of 6000ft or so. John took this pic no doubt keeping an anxious eye on the narrow gap below
This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
