Monday 26th June – Friday 30th June

Monday 25th: Good soaring conditions were forecast and happily eventuated leading to a busy day. The first launches into a promising sky were by two private owners declaring long tasks to the south. Rob Bailey got as far as Scunthorpe in his ASG29T before retreating back north due to ominous spreadout S of the Humber. He then notched up several TP's in Yorkshire for a total of 323 km. Detective work indicated that the second pilot was Lindsey McLane who seems to have flown >400kms down into deepest Lincolshire with a foray to the Bedale area after returning to Sutton Bank. I can't be more precise as there is no entry on OLC or the Ladder and Flightlog does not have a Flarm identity for his Ventus. The trace does appear to finish very near to Lindsey's trailer after landing - a strong clue!
The weeks course attendees had a great introduction to gliding at Sutton Bank enjoying a number of lengthy soaring flights. It was good to see that course member Derek Jones re-soloed in the DG500 from the last flight of the day. Congrats to him.
A number of club members had an hour or more soaring in the club's single seaters. In addition private owners Polly Whitehead, Tony Drury and Jon Hart justified their decisions to rig and had extended flights in the local area.
Flying continued beyond 7pm in order to maximise the opportunities of this good day in view of a dire forecast for the week - sadly accurate.

Tuesday June 27th: No flying. It rained a lot.

Wednesday June 28th: No flying. It rained even more.

Thursday June 29th: No flying. Persistant low cloud with drizzle at times.

Friday June 30th. No flying. More low cloud although a couple of breaks led to the hangar doors being opened. Soon closed!

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
