Monday 17th to Thursday 20th November 2025.

Monday 17th. A moderate NNW'ly that slowly backed into the NW brought a cold day of sunny periods and 4 ATs off runway 02, 2 in K21 KLW and 2 in Astir DSU. In the absence of any lift, flight times were in the 5-7 minute range for those who took 1100' launches and 10-12 minutes for those who took 1,500' to 2,000' launches, Paul/Polly Whitehead having the 12 minute flight in KLW.
Tuesday 18th. A light and steadily decreasing S'ly brought in low cloud and rain at times so there was no flying.
Wednesday 19th. A layer of snow on the airfield (see following photos) under sunny skies greeted the 20 or so retired from flying, YGC, glider pilots as they attended a lunch organised by Phil Lazenby, the snow having fallen overnight and during the morning, the wind being a moderate to fresh NNW'ly that slowly declined to moderate and backed into the NW. The combination of wind strength/direction and snow meant there was no flying apart from that recounted via tales of exploits from past years around the dinning tables.
Thursday 20th. The Arctic air mass continued to flow across the UK, the moderate NW'ly slowly increasing to moderate to fresh and veering into the NNW, bringing in more snow showers, so there was no flying.
This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
