Monday 16th. A southward travelling, weak cold front brought a low overcast but this cleared late morning allowing both flying to commence off runway 24 into a light NW'ly around midday and the first real task of YGC's Task Week to be set. 4 pilots undertook the task and while I haven't access to the final scores, based on the number of TPs reached and distance flown, Andrew Cluskey in his Shark would appear to be the day winner. This is of course uncertain given the scoring system and the discretion of the Task Week Director Fred Brown. Andrew visited 7 TPs, john Ellis in his DG800 5, Fred Brown in his Ventus 4 and Toby Wilson in his Standard Cirrus 3. The 4 Task Week pilots provided the longest flights of the day, ranging from 2:09 to 3:07 with nobody else exceeding an hour, the next best being Clive Swain and Charles Frenchville who had 40 minutes in the DG500, almost repeating the exercise with 37 minutes off the last and 18th AT of the day, but this time in K21 JVZ.
Tuesday 17th. Extensive cloud circulating around a area of high pressure to the west of the UK meant a day of restricted flying at Sutton. A low cloud base delayed flying until around midday and its extent meant there were no soaring opportunities. Consequently, only 3 flights resulted, all for First Flight pupils, with Toby Wilson providing the introduction to gliding in K21 JVZ.
