Friday 30th to Saturday 31st December 2022

Friday 30th.  Another Atlantic depression brought a low overcast and rain for most of the day, the clearance coming around 1600 hrs as the moderate to fresh SSE'ly veered into the WSW and increased to fresh to strong.  Consequently, there was no flying.

Saturday 31st.  The last day of 2022 was a non flying day as more Atlantic fronts brought low cloud, wind and rain.  However,  as we look back at 2022 at the Yorkshire GC, we see a best ever year for kms flown, 31,258, based on BGA Ladder and OLC data going back to 2003, exceeding the previous best of 30,909.4 km in 2018.  Only May and September were significantly below average, while June's 8.884.9 km was the best ever, beating the previous best of 7,310.0 km flown in June 2013.  In height gained terms, 2022 was the 3rd best in the same data set, the total of 458,926' being somewhat short of the 543,719' achieved in 2017.  However, while most months were not significantly different from average, both May and October had best ever totals, May's 86,072' easily exceeding the previous best of 63,227' in 2015, as did October's 179,361' compared to the previous best of 122,247' in 2017.   I would like to end 2022 by wishing you all safe and fun filled flying in 2023.
