Friday 27th to Saturday 28th February 2026

Friday 27th.  A light to moderate N'ly blew all day with  accompanying low cloud and light rain and drizzle at times, so  there was no flying.

Saturday 28th.  Early morning rain ceased around 0900 hrs, with the subsequent clearance allowing flying to commence around 1130 hrs when John Carter took a 11 minute flight in the Falke, the first of 3 Falke flights during the day.  John took off from runway 02 into a light to moderate NNW'ly but this quickly backed into the WSW, so subsequent flights left from runway 24, with landings on 24, 20 or 02.  The cloudy skies slowly cleared as a ridge of high pressure began to move in from the W, but a general absence of lift meant flight times from the five 2,000' to 3,000' tows averaged 17 minutes, with flight times from the three 1,100' tows averaging 8 minutes.   The longest flight of the day was the 21 minutes flown by Nigel Burke and the day's only First Flight pupil. who had 21 minutes off their 2,500' tow.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
