Friday 26th. Early morning thunderstorms brought torrential rain but cleared away around 0800 hrs allowing flying to commence at 1049 hrs when Bob Calvert took the first of the day's 9 ATs with the first of the day's 7 First Flight pupils off runway 20 into a light to moderate SSE'ly. All the the latter flights started with a tow to 3,000' QFE, resulting in flight times of 25-33 minutes, the 33 minutes being due to an encounter with a weak thermal that resulted in a slow climb of 600'. That was it as far as useful lift was concerned, with no other flight over 30 minutes, the sunny skies and high temperatures, a maximum of 30.9C locally, not translating into soarable conditions, although isolated Cumulonimbus formed during the afternoon giving rise to some heavy showers. The 2 remaining flights were by Andreas Rieder/David Rule, their 2,000' QFE tows in K21 JVZ giving them 15 and 17 minutes of flying time.
