Friday 19th to Saturday 20th September 2025

Friday 19th.  A  moderate SSW'ly slowly declined to become light to moderate over the day, with skies remaining cloudy due to the presence of a virtually stationary front to the north of Sutton.   Flying commenced around 1130 hrs off runway 20 with the day's AT total being 10, including 2 by private owners.  They were the only pilots to have more than an hours flying, while Clive Swain/Steven Carroll had 48 minutes in the DG1000 soaring the home ridge at 800-1100' QFE.  Pete Crawley's 1:06 in his ASH 25M was traceless, but Fred Brown's 3:14 in his Ventus 2ct was not, with Fred contacting wave 4 km to the S of Topcliffe and climbing to 5,600' asl through a small gap in the cloud, before finding another wave climb12.4 km SE of Boroughbridge that took him to 11,00' asl as more gaps appeared for a few hours.  A subsequent excursion to the whereabouts of Garforth and Pateley Bridge and a return to Sutton clocked up 146 OLC km, with the strong wind at height making flying backwards relative to the ground easy.  Fred supplied the following photo.

Saturday 20th.  There was no flying, as the occluded front to the north of site had moved southwards to cover the area, so it was a very wet day with very low cloud, 40 mm of rain  falling  between 0800 and 2200 hrs and he wind  becoming a light to  moderate N'ly.
