August has arrived, and with it the last third of the British Summer! It was a day of forecasted showers, many of which duly arrived some of them very heavy, with people resorting to whatever shelter they could find, be it in a glider, a tug, or the launch point van!
However, there were twenty-three aerotows and two motor-glider sorties, with both of the club's K21s being used, alongside one flight in a club Astir. The longest flight was by Ron Beezer and Dave Murgatroyd (50 minutes) in late evening wave produced by a moderate westerly, the wind having shifted in early evening from a light southerly. A morning flight by Andy Parish and A. Bedford clocked up 49 minutes, this being the second-longest flight.
There were no private owners flying, but there were six trial flights, variously executed (if that's the right word) by Dave Bradley, Will Blackburn, and Tony Drury.
Mr Parish put Mr Ball through his field-landing paces in the Motor glider, and there was a further solo sortie in this aircraft.
The evening group reported clear skies and a beautiful sunset, their last flight landing with just twenty minutes to go before legal night.
This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
