Addendum/Sunday 2nd. Congratulations are due to George Claydon who successfully soloed on Sunday and is pictured below with instructor John Marsh under some sunny skies.
Thursday 6th. The resident anticyclone brought blue skies, a light to moderate WNW'ly flow and relatively weak thermals, restricted in altitude to around 3,000' asl. However, the conditions encouraged 6 private owners to launch, pilots to embark on a collective 35 ATs and some to venture cross country, as 5 flights exceeded an hour and a further eleven, 30 minutes. John Ellis, flying his DG800, did an O/R to the Humber Bridge, 154.4 km, finding the conditions tricky, so much so that an intention to visit Guisborough SW to extend the flight was abandoned after passing Sutton but before reaching the Tontine. John topped the duration list with 3:42, while Rob Bailey in his ASG29t had 2:15 as he soared locally. Rob accompanied Steve Thompson towards the Tontine during the early part of his flight, Steve ultimately landing out in his Discus near Thimbleby. Others to exceed an hour were Chris Ballance in the DG303 who had 1:18 and followed this up with 51 minutes in the same glider. Brian Wise had 1:15 in the Discus and John Carter and Alan Bateman had 1:09 in the DG500 to top the two seater list, with John Stalley and Steve Wakeham spending 50 minutes in the same glider.
