Friday 14th.  A light to moderate W'ly blew on a day of sunny intervals, Cumulus taking a while to develop over the lower ground.  20 ATs, 1 self launch and a Falke flight off runway 24 resulted, with 3 private owners launching and 4 First Flight pupils flown, soaring flights amounting to 12 over 30 minutes with 6 of these over an hour.  Cloud base reached 6,000' asl in placeswith average peak climb rates around 4 kts, the conditions encouraging 2 pilots to fly XC.  Dean Crosby in his LS10t flew 206 OLC km as he went for a  wander around E Yorkshire with TPs at Snainton, 14 km E of Beverley, 6 km ENE of Langtoft and 11 km S of Sutton before going to 10 km N of Sutton and then returning to site for his landing after 2:38.  Peter Crawley in  his ASH 31M flew a longer wander, his 365 OLC km flight taking him to just N of Boston before returning to Yorkshire to fly a similar last couple of legs to Dean, with a TPs 5 km  E of Langtoft and then 10 km NW of Sutton before landing after 4:58.  Steve Ogden in his Discus was the other private owner to fly, his 2:36 flight being mainly local but with an O/R to Tontine.  Those flying club gliders also took advantage of the conditions, with James Shaw/Derek Taylor in the DG500 climbing to 6,600' asl via a combination of thermal and weak wave in their 1:05 flight, Mike and Alex Fox having 1:07 of local soaring in K21 KlW, Bas Sonneveldt having 1:056 in Astir DPO, and James/Chara Triantafyllidou having 58 minutes in the DG500, during which they flew an O/R to 8 km WSW of RAF Topcliffe.
