Thursday 9th.  A sunny and hot day, with the maximum temperature locally reaching 31.4C, brought blue thermals and a number of climbs to 5,000' asl and more, as a light to moderate, and at times variable WSW'ly blew.  The day's 17 ATs and a self launch produced 13 flights in excess of 30 minutes with 9 of these over an hour, as 9 private owners launched, 3 First Flight pupils were flown and the Falke had 2 flights,   The highest climb of the day was by Derek Smith in his DG808 as he reached 8,400' asl near Bawtry during a 281 OLC km O/R  flight  to just to the SE of Newark. Other high flyers were Clive Swain in his Kestrel 19, 7,100' asl over Thirsk during his 5:08 flight over the Dales, Jeremy Bodian in his Vega 15, 7,200' asl, Peter Dixon in his Std Jantar, 7,000' asl,  Patrick Fowler in his Astir CS, 6,500' asl, Martin Joyce in his ASW19, 6,400' asl, Martin Newbery in his Ventus ct, 6,200' asl and Chris Milnes, flying K21 KLW solo, 5,300' asl, all these latter pilots flying locally.  James Shaw/Ryan Parker took the Falke on a 146 OLC km flight around Malton, Pocklington and Ripon which included a touch and go at Rufforth.
