Wednesday 24th. Another sunny and hot day with the temperature reaching 31C at nearby Topcliffe, early scattered Cumulus over the North Yorks Moors and Pennines extending into the Vale of York during the afternoon. The day's 15 ATs and 2 Falke flights off runway 20 included 4 for First Flight pupils and 4 by private owners, with the number of the day's flights of > 30 minutes reaching 5, with 4 of these over an hour. Rob Bailey in his ASG29t had the first of the day's soaring flights with 53 minutes of local soaring, with a peak altitude of 3,200' asl and an average peak climb rate of 2.2 kts. The pilots soaring for > an hour included Neil Armstrong in Astir DSU, 1:25, Pete Goodchild in his Discus bt, 2:54, and James Shaw/Rob Cruikshank in K21 KLW, 1:08, who, off the last flight of the day, reached 5,700' asl. Neil and James,/Rob stayed local and I am assuming Pete did, although his trace is very poor not allowing this to be confirmed. The only XC flight of the day was by Clive Swain, who flew the Falke solo on an O/R to Hornsea Mere.
