Friday 12th.  Cloudy skies and the threat of rain led to a pause in flying after Chris O'Doyle/Amam Tam took an 8 minute flight in K21 JVZ at 1100 hrs.  Clearing skies led to the resumption of flying around 1415 hrs, with 5 other winch launches thereafter off runway 24, all of which led to flights of over an hour by the 3 private owners and the 4 members who flew in the club 2 seaters.  Soaring was mainly by thermal with some assistance from the main W'ly ridges and those further N, but most pilots experienced some patchy wave, with the best climb to around 5,500' asl near Thimbleby by Martyn Johnson during  his flight of 2:35, which included  a visit to the Tontine area and the Forward Ridge.  Dean Crosby in his LS10t also found some wave near Thimbleby, climbing to 4,100' asl, but used thermal and ridge to visit Guisborough W via Tontine and returned via the same TP to cover just under 100 OLC km during his 3:12 flight.  Fred Brown in his Ventus 2ct also had just over 3 hrs, finding some patchy wave some 6 km to the SE of Northallerton, but mainly using thermal, with a best altitude of 4,400' asl as he soared in the NW quadrant from Sutton.  The last two flights of the day saw Chris O'Doyle/Bas Sonneveld have 1:21 in  K21 JVZ, mainly soaring the home bowl with some thermally interludes, while Dave McKinney/Martin Joyce had 1:37 exploring the main W'ly and Forward Ridges  mainly via thermals.
