Monday 6th to Tuesday 7th April 2026

Monday 6th.  Blue skies and a light to  moderate SE'ly led to a busy day at Sutton with 34 ATs, 1 self launch and 1 Falke take off from runway 20.  The moderate thermal strengths, typically up to 2.5 kts and blue thermals were used for soaring, with cloud base rising to around 5,000' asl in certain areas,  but most of the pilots who exceeded an hour's flying stayed local, with only Dean Crosby in his LS10t and Toby Wilson in his Standard Cirrus flying XC.  Dean flew122 OLC kms after a spell of local soaring, with TPs at Richmond, Masham, surviving a sticky patch there, and then back to site after soaring in the Northallerton/Catterick area.  Toby, again after a spell of local soaring, flew an O/R to Northallerton, returning via Thirsk, but conditions were particularly tricky for Rob Bailey in his ASG 29t, who,  while flying locally had to resort to his engine, as did Bas Sonneveld in his DG808 near Northallerton and for Sarah Stubbs who landed out  in the Discus at Bagby, getting an AT retrieve later in the day.  The other > an hour pilots who had less eventful flights included Darren Lodge in his LS8-18, 3.28, Adam Sayer in 1:02, his ASW 19, 1.53, Bas Saonneveld in his LS4, 2:05, John Marsh in his DG303, 1:07, Sanjay Nath in a LS4, 1:92, Steve Scothern in his Discus t, 1:21, Andy Tyas in Astir DPO, 1:14, and Charles Frenchville in Astir DSU,  1:13.  The longest 2 seater flight was the 41minutes flown by Sarah Stubbs/Yaseem El Adwar in the DG1000, with recent soloist Ian Miskin having just under an hour solo in K21 KLW.

Tuesday 7th.  Under hazy blue skies, the moderate to moderate to fresh ESE'ly was considered too cross wind for safe operation  off either the  20 or 06 ruways, so  there was no flying.
