Sunday 20th. A light to moderate ESE'ly blew all day accompanied by sunny intervals and scattered Cumulus, a combination that led to 41 ATs and 2 self launches off runway 20 as the YGC welcomed visitors from the London GC. 25 of the launches led to flights of over 30 minutes with 16 over an hour, with 5 pilots undertaking cross countries, experiencing a cloud base that rose to around 3,900' asl and peak average thermal strengths in the range 3,5-4.5 kts. 3 YGC pilots flew cross countries with Kelly Teagle undertaking her 1st in her newly acquired LS8t-18, a 100 km triangle with TPs at Pocklington and Rufforth. Rob Bailey in his ASG29t flew a 217 km task with TPs at or near York, Thirsk and Barnard Castle while Fred Brown in his Ventus 2ct flew 134 km with TPs at Market Weighton and Ripon. Visitors Nigel Perren in his Discus flew 137 km visiting Rufforth South, Pocklington, Sutton Control Point South and just failing to get to Boroughbridge before returning to Sutton, while Adam Darby in his ASH26e flew locally before doing an O/R to York covering 99 km. Most of the other visiting private owners who flew stayed local with flight times mostly around 1-3 hours, their club Duo Discus also having a 1:01 flight in the hands of Eddie Smith/Emma Lees. YGC members with over an hour locally included Nigel Burke in his DG808, 2:15, and Bob Calvert/Duncan Pask in K21 JVZ with 1:54.
