Friday 1st.  A light to moderate NNE/ENE'ly brought in low cloud and light rain and drizzle,  the latter lasting until early afternoon.  Consequently, there was no flying.

Tuesday 2nd.  An anticyclone centred to the E of the UK brought sunny intervals and a light to moderate S'ly wind and increasing temperatures, with 29 ATs flown off runway 20.  Soaring conditions became established around midday, with Darren Lodge in his LS8-18 starting a 5:16 flight in the local area, local flying being  the norm for the majority of the 14 flights to exceed an hour, with a further 3 having 30-59 minutes.  There were. however, a few XC's, with Bob Calvert in his Discus 2ct going east to near Snainton, before visiting Fridaythorpe, Wetherby and Tontine in his 4 hr flight, while visitor Andy Balkwell in his LS8-18 did an O/R to Rufforth followed by a visit to Carlton Bank and Danby in his flight of just over 3 hours.  Late in the day, Sarah Stubbs visited Thirsk, Helmsley and Easingwold in the Discus all within 1:10.  Congratulations are however, due to Adam Sayer who did an 109 km O/R to Burn in Astir DSU to claim his Silver distance.  A photo of Adam ready to ring the bar bell and stand drinks all around is included below.

Cloud base eventually rose from 3,300' asl to  4,400' asl, and although average climb rates were typically1-2 kts, average peak rates were as high as 3,5-4 kts, with members, visitors and the day's 6 First Flight pupils enjoying a good day's soaring.
