Wednesday 8th. The day dawned with sunny conditions to the North and a high overcast to the south as a depression tracked eastwards bringing snow to southern England, the light to moderate N'ly eventually becoming E'ly. The morning was sufficiently soarable to provide limited cross country opportunities as light snow eventually arrived putting a stop to flying by early afternoon. Rob Bailey in his ASG29t, Steve Thompson in the Discus and John Carter/David Watson in the DG1000 were the cross country pilots with Rob covering 69 kms while visiting Thirsk, Carlton and Northallerton, getting to 4,200' asl and having a best average climb rate of 2.9 kts. Rob arrived back at site after 1:24, just as the light snow started . Steve also went off to the better weather to the NE, going some 20 km in that direction before backtracking, surviving a low point of around 1,000' QFE and then visiting Carlton Bank and climbing to 4,300' asl in his 1:06 flight. John and David Watson also spent most of their 55 minute flight to the NE of site, maintaining 3,600 to 4,000' asl in a series of thermals. Laurie Clarke had two >30 minute flights in K21 KLW, 48 minutes with Stuart Wallace and then 45 minutes with Neil Amos but Flarm traces for KLW were not available, while Roger Burghall had a 28 minute flight in the Discus, during which he climbed to 3,800' asl.
