Thursday 30th.  Overnight rain was followed by a day of isolated showers, as a light, initially SSE'ly blew, this soon veering into the SW.  The showers didn't interfere with flying, which, commencing just before 1100 hrs, totalled 22 off runway 24, runway 20 being used for landing.  Generally cloudy skies limited extended flights to 7 over 30 minutes, with 4 of these over an hour and only 2 private owners launched, providing one of the flights of over an hour, and one between 30 and 60 minutes. Bill Payton, flying his DG1000t solo, had 3:15, visiting Masham, Barnard Castle and Selset Reservoir before returning to site via Masham, a distance of around 170 km.  Shortly after leaving site and WNW of Thirsk, Bill recovered from a low point, I think with the use of his engine, before continuing, having a peak altitude of 5,000' asl near Barnard Castle and a peak average climb rate of 3.5 kts. The other flights of over an hour were by M Birch/D Hannaby, a Day Course pupil, who had 1:20 in K21 KLW, and, late in the day, with conditions improving, Mark Batin had 1:23 solo in KLW and Sue Ahern had exactly an hour in the DG303, all in local thermals, with peak altitudes of around 4,000' asl.   The best of the three >30<60 minute flights, was by Rob Bailey in his ASG29t, with 48 minutes locally.
