Vintage Gliding Club Rally 2019
25 May - 1 June 2019
In 2019, Yorkshire Gliding Club welcomes members of the National Rally of the Vintage Gliding Club for a week of flying fun at one of the UK's most iconic gliding sites set in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors.
Sutton Bank has been a part of UK gliding since 1934 and is dependable hill site where pilots can experience thermal, ridge and wave lift in the right weather conditions. Our annual 'Slingsby Week' visitors have enjoyed climbs to over 10,000' in recent seasons, as well as opportunities to fly their classic aircraft on cross countries of hundreds of kilometers.
For ground crew, those occasions where flying isn't possible, or when the day is over - our unique circular clubhouse is comfortable, warm and offers panoramic views over the vale of York and out as far as the Pennines. The restaurant provides refreshments, snacks, full meals and cake throughout the day and our licensed members bar is available once flying has finished. There are also self catering facilities for those who want to prepare their own food.
North Yorkshire also has plenty to offer the visitor; including the North Yorks Moors Railway running between Pickering and Whitby, the Elvington Air Museum, and the World War 2 Museum at Eden Camp near Malton. There are also great walking and cycling opportunities nearby.
On-site camping facilities for tents or caravans are plentiful and convenient.
In addition to flying your own machines the club fleet of single seaters is available for suitably qualified visitors to fly at club rates or you can take a trip with one of our instructors to explore the area in a DG500, DG1000 or ASK21.
An entry fee of £10 per day per glider will include reciprocal membership, trailer parking and use of camping facilities. There will be very limited power points available, primarily for camper vans, for which an additional charge may be made.
