Monday 16th to Tuesday 17th May 2022

Monday 16th.  A light to moderate SSE'ly blew all day as the low overcast produced periods of light rain that meant it was a non-flying day.

Tuesday 17th.  The SSE'ly wind had increased to moderate, so operations were off runway 20, with 35 ATs flown.  The overcast skies meant it was generally a day for extended circuits, but in a brief period in the early afternoon, some thermal activity allowed Martyn Johnson in his DG600 to have 1:35 and climb to 3,900' asl and Andrew Wilmott in his ASW 20 to have 55 minutes.  Flights in club gliders around the same time saw Clive Swain/ Mike Schuett in K21 KLW have 42 minutes and Guy Hartland and one of the day's 4 First Flight pupils have 31 minutes in K21 JVZ.   Nobody else managed a flight of over 30 minutes, although late in the day, Steve Thompson/Kai Fordham-Brown had exactly 30 minutes in the DG1000 aided by a high tow.  Club flying was all via the 2 seater fleet, but Adrian Funnell, Sue Ahearne, Andrew Bedford and Adam Sayer all had solo flights.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
