Saturday 18th.  A flabby low was now controlling the UK's weather, which at Sutton Bank meant a light N'ly flow and a continuous cover of cloud, the base of which was too low to permit flying.  That is with the exception of the simulator, where Tony Drury provided some flying and decision making  challenges to Tash Dodds.  The arrival of a visiting group of pilots from the Stratford GC with their gliders, back at Sutton on one of their regular visits, coincided with the weather brightening up and flying got under way around 1530 hrs as John Marsh and visitor Ian Roberts took off from runway 20 behind the Eurofox for a 23 minute site familiarisation flight in K21 JVZ.  A few spots of rain fell but the main weather action was to the SW where a slow moving shower developed into a extensive storm.    3 further flights followed the first, with Chris Haresnape taking a check flight with Ron Beezer in JVZ, following this with a solo flight in the same glider and a landing on 02, the runway favoured by Albert Newbery who was today's duty tuggie.   The day's flying then came to an end with Ron Beezer and visitor Adrian Flower doing another familiarisation flight in JVZ, this time finding some weak lift that exteded their flight to 28 minutes followed by an landing on 20.

This blog describes a snippet of life at the Yorkshire Gliding Club. Why not take a flight and try it yourself, or we can teach you to fly as a full club member.
