Trial Lessons

A great way to try gliding... a Trial Lesson!

It's a great way to try something new and experience the delights of soaring flight, or maybe you'd just like to take in the view!
If you are considering taking up gliding, then a Trial Lesson will give you a feel for the sport. Otherwise simply enjoy the experience of soaring over the North Yorkshire Moors and the Vale of York.

Depending on the weather, your flight will begin with either a tow behind a powered aircraft to around 2000 feet (approx. 600 metres), OR a winch launch to approx 700 ft. It is important to note that the weather will determine the method of launch. After release from the winch or tow aircraft, your qualified instructor will demonstrate the flying controls, and explain how the glider can stay airborne using lift generated by the sun and wind.

Your instructor will also give you the opportunity to follow through on the controls - it's not as difficult as you might think. He/she will guide you through with patience and a steady hand. However, you don't have to if you don't want to - you can just sit back and enjoy the view if you prefer.

The views are stunning. If you wish to take photos during your flight you should tell your instructor before the flight commences. Your instructor will advise how you should hold and operate the camera safely.

Visitors are very welcome in our clubhouse, which has a cafe upstairs. The cafe is open most days so you can enjoy a drink and a snack.

All of our instructors are trained to the standards set by the British Gliding Association. The training to the standard is rigorous, and you can be assured that your instructor will look after you before, during and after your flight.

Cost

The cost of a flight is just £89.50 which includes three months temporary membership of the club, during which time you can take further flights at club rates. That's a great offer if you think you might like to move on to learn to fly with us.

IMPORTANT: Height and weight restrictions

Unfortunately the following height and weight restrictions apply: Maximum height: 6' 2" (189 cm); Maximum weight: 16.5 stones (104 Kg). Minimum height: 4' 7 (140 cm). Please check that you are within these limitations before purchasing your trial lesson.

Cost: £89.50 + P&P

Note: If the trial lesson is for someone else, please tell us their name so we can personalise their voucher.
The voucher will be posted to you.

Fly one mile high with us!

Of course, it would be a little difficult to join the 'Mile High Club' in a glider, however we're now offering flights to 'one mile high' (5,280 feet or 1,609 metres) above sea level.

You can view the beautiful Vale of York and North York Moors from high above, while gliding gently in one of our two-seat gliders. Your instructor will guide you through use of the controls, allowing you to follow through on the controls of the glider as you drift gently earthwards. On a warm day, you might even catch a thermal and soar like a bird.

Cost: £155.00 + P&P

Note: If the trial lesson is for someone else, please tell us their name so we can personalise their voucher.
The voucher will be posted to you.

Note 2: Flights to 5,280 feet may not be possible every day due to weather conditions. If the weather on your chosen day is not suitable, we will arrange an alternative date.
